New Chrysler 100 Spotted In the Wild

Spied Testing in California

The latest photos once again confirm that Chrysler is planning to sell a compact hatchback that will compete with the Ford Focus. Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne spoke last year about being optimistic that a compact hatchback will succeed in North America based on Fords track record.

An Alfa badge is blatantly visible on the rear, and the majority of the car looks like the Giulietta on which its based except for the horizontally-slatted Chrysler grille.

First shown during the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, the car didnt have a name at the time. Engine options might likely include range-topping powerplants borrowed from the Dart. Those would include a 2.0- and 2.4-liter four cylinders with 160 and 186 hp.

I wonder if the initial plan for a hatch was going to be shared with Alfa and that's why the decision ended up getting scraped...

Likely it was, European markets do much better with hatches and wagons than the American market does, they probably figured that it's better off over their than in America
