Whats Happening with the Chrysler 100

This time last year our biggest question was will the 100 be sedan, hatchback or both. Fast forward 12 months and there are now even more answers then questions. There are three competing theories at this point.

First, that the Dart will actually move over from the Dodge side and take up the mantle of 100. Reason being Dodge is expected to gain a new midsize RWD sedan to be shared with Alfa Romeo, its been rumored that the new sedan could take the Dart name.

The second theory has the 100 and the Dart coexisting in showrooms however with the 100C being a true compact, think more Honda Fit/Ford Fiesta.

The last and most compelling theory is that the 100 could and should share its under pinnings with the Jeep Renegade. The Renegade's platform was adopted from the 500 (GM Fiat Small platform, SCCS), and beefed up to handle off road duties, so it already offers the lighterweight and compact dimensions that the Dart hasn't been able to achieve. The Renegade platform rumor also squares with the 100 becoming a true compact compared to Dart.

The biggest benefit to the third theory is the 100 would then achieve its own identity and not bear the scars of a badge engineered dart.

But the best rumor of them all, twin scroll turbo 4 cylinder, they call it the Hurricane... Stay tuned sports fans.

The 100 having it's own identity is a good move, something i hope they actually do, with Fiat in the mix i think the chances of that happening might be greater.
