It's Coming! Chrysler 100 Compact Sedan Coming for 2016

Being nearly 1/2 way through 2015, 2016 is not all that far away, be patient, it will be here soon enough!

The 100, as we imagine it, will be based on the “Compact U.S. Wide” front-wheel-drive platform that underpins the Dodge Dart and the mid-size 200. Without saying anything of real substance regarding the car in its investor presentation, Chrysler intends to “differentiate” the 100 from its competitors—the Ford Focus, the Toyota Corolla, the Honda Civic, and the Chevrolet Cruze, among others—with better performance, snazzier interiors, and lots of technology. In other words, the 100 won’t be a PT Cruiser redux, but Chrysler wouldn’t turn down PT-like sales figures.

While we expect the 100 to get a 2.4-liter four and nine-speed automatic, the 100 needs to look and feel drastically different from the Dart to attract attention. With the unmourned Avenger and, eventually, the Dodge Grand Caravan booted out of existence—moves that will calm what Chrysler describes as an “internal brand turf war” against Dodge—the 100 may suffer from Buick Verano syndrome if it’s not much more than a gussied-up Dart. We have to wonder if the 100 won’t become any more than a modern-day Chrysler Cirrus, cannibalizing residual sales from its Dodge counterpart—which itself is due for a refresh in 2016. It’s probably too early to judge, right?

I am imagining that the 200 will give us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the 100. It will be interesting to see the interaction between the 100 and the Dart. Though the two vehicles will be similar in many ways, the styling will appeal to different buyers. Pricing may be the ultimate factor in that situation.

That it will.

Being the brands newest and closest product to what the 100 will turn out like, its the best representation of something "100-like" but of course there will be some dilution going on from the 200 to 100 for reasons obvious.

I just hope interior sticks close enough to what the 200 is.
There's a level of expectations that come with a lower segment product, so our expectations will have to be in line with that

Yea the interior was really nicely done in the 200. I am really hoping to get basically a replica of that in the 100. Do you think there will be any significant changes?

we'll see what happens, I just came across this Reuters piece which reveals that FCA has been sandbagging new model relaeases and updates/refreshes as they try and scrape together a war chest for mergers and what not...

As bad of a setback as that is, setting a foundation that secures them in the long run, cutting initial costs and overall getting thing off on the right foot is their priority. Will be on the look out for update surrounding this.

What they're doing is pushing the pain away, or delaying it is a better phrase. Incrimental updates are being shunned in favour of one big one at a later date with the hope that they'll of found extra cash by that time. That's a fairly serious bet on your future product without even a sliver of guarantee that the strategy has a chance at success...

it's risky but clearly they have some justification for it
