Dennis That would be a lovely car, shame it won't make it to market after all.

berkshire That's actually a smart move since crossover segments still have some filling to do and chrysler can bring some competitive products to the game.

Segment the 100 competes in moves at a much slower pace currently. The fact we haven't seen anything else from other car makers confirm this.

100 Put On Back-burner in Favor of 2 New Crossovers

Chrysler has had a pretty diminutive lineup for quite some time now. Listing the models in the lineup can be done quickly. Here it goes: the 200, the 300, and the soon to be updated Town & Country minivan.

Chrysler is looking to expand the lineup in order to boost sales and profits. We were told that the next model to join the lineup after the Town & Country minivan was the 100 compact sedan. It appears that plan has been cancelled or delayed (like most of FCA's plans), and instead Chrysler will be develop 2 crossovers.

The first is a 2017 7-seater crossover that will be designed to compete with the Ford Explorer and the Toyota Highlander. It will likely be built on the same platform as the aforementioned new Town & Country. It also will be available with a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The second is a 5-seater crossover that will be competing with models like the Ford Edge and the Hyundai Sante Fe. That model will be a 2019 model, which means we will see it in a major auto show in 2018.

Chrysler hasn't officially announced what is happening to the 100, so it is unclear if it is being delayed slightly, or if it is being cancelled altogether.

What do you think of this news?
